‘My birth and my life and my end are meant to serve, to console, to inspire, to share the sufferings nd to take the sufferings, and that is all the happiness. I firmly and honestly and truthfully feel that I am much, much and very much lower than the dust under the feet of those who have uttered Sat Nam once, and that too by mistake. Therefore each and every one of you has the firm right to call and ask, and it is my privilege to serve.’ Yogi Bhajan

Throughout story, a handful of spiritual giants has arisen as dynamic catalysts for the evolution of human consciousness. Their lives, their revolutionary teachings and their very presence on the planet accelerated the process of millions of souls. Such a Master, a Teacher of teachers, is Yogi Bhajan.
When he arrived in the United States in December of 1968, he stated his mission quite clearly. He said, "I have come to create Teachers, not to gather disciples." Determined to train leaders and teachers with the power to heal, uplift, and inspire humanity, he taught Kundalini Yoga openly to the public, breaking the tradition of secrecy which had surrounded it for centuries.
He not only created thousands of Kundalini Yoga Teachers throughout the world, but also an entire sub-culture within the mainstream population has evolved who practice his teachings. It is called `3H0," the acronym for The Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization which he founded. Based on his first principle, "Happiness is your birthright," hundreds of thousands of women, men and children from many different backgrounds have applied the technology of Kundalini Yoga to experience a healthy, balanced, happy, and successful life.
Poet, philosopher, seer, sage, saint, healer, religious leader, counselor, artist, author, lecturer, and even an excellent cook, Yogi Bhajan is always first and foremost a Teacher. He published over 30 books and his teachings are published in over 200 other books and videos. He holds a Ph.D. in the psychology of communication (1980).
He created and was the driving force behind 19 corporations which all espouse the same principles he teaches for personal growth. These businesses offer services including computer systems, security, counseling, and a mail order catalog. They offer a wide array of health food products, including cereals, teas, herbal remedies, and massage oils which are based on formulas he developed.
Since 1968, he has taught and carried the message of hope and inspiration around the world, reaching people in all walks of life. Mentor to statesmen, politicians and CEOs; confidante of religious leaders, media personalities, and simple seekers, his motto, printed on the back of his business card is, "If you can't see God in all, you can't see God at all."
His penetrating insight, infinite compassion, tireless service, and loving compassion immediately endeared him to the eager souls who flocked to his Kundalini Yoga classes in the late 1960s and early 1970s. His fiery determination to awaken their souls, and to teach them to never settle for less than the best within themselves, created a powerful impact. He taught people how to access their intuitive awareness, how to experience an expanded consciousness without drugs and how to build a future for themselves and their families. In 1973 he initiated 3H0 SuperHealthSM, the only holistic substance abuse treatment program of its kind accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization. The same program has been successfully implemented in Amritsar, Punjab, India.
He created Miri Piri Academy, a boarding school in India leading to matric, so that young people would have the ability to be equally at home in first and third world environments and thus be world citizens.
Yogi Bhajan is an outspoken champion for the grace and dignity of women. He started the Grace of God Movement of the Women of America (GGMWA). From 1974 onward, at his annual summer camp for women he challenges women to discover their true identity and build their independent roles as builders in society. He educates women on how their identity can best serve them and their relationships to their families and their partner. He teaches how to take responsibility to lead uplift and heal through their grace and power.
In 1971, the leaders of his own Sikh faith honored him with the title Siri Singh Sahib and bestowed upon him the role of Chief Religious and Administrative Authority for Sikh Dharma of the Western Hemisphere, entrusting him with the responsibility to establish the Sikh Ministry in the West.
His uncompromising call to his contemporaries to break out of the self limiting confinement of separatism and move forward with openness and love for all has moved him to meet with religious and spiritual leaders to promote world peace. He served in the World Parliament of Religions. He founded International Peace Prayer Day (1983), hosted annually in June in Espanola New Mexico (USA). He was awarded the Peace Abbey Courage of Consciousness Award in Massachusetts in 1995.
Yogi Bhajan was born Harbhajan Singh Puri on August 26, 1929 in India. During his childhood he learned from his wise and saintly grandfather who sent him to a Spiritual Teacher when he was 7 years old. Only 16 years old, he mastered Kundalini Yoga under the unrelenting tutelage of the great Master Sant Hazara Singh. He was a teenager during the partition of India in 1947. At age 18, he was put in charge of leading over a thousand people to safety from Pakistan to India at a time of huge human and political upheaval.
Settling his family in Delhi, he attended Punjab University where he received a Master’s degree in Economics and was a champion debater and star athlete. He served the Government of India in the Tax and Customs division until he came to the West.
He married Dr. Bibiji Inderjit Kaur in 1953 and they are parents to three children and grandparents to five grandchildren.
Yogi Bhajan went from riches to rags and back during his life. As a yogi, and one not affected by the pair of opposites, he lived in majesty, affirming with absolute certainty that everything belongs to God and Guru, and we all are simply the caretakers. A regal, expanded, enlightened human being and saint, at home in all circumstances and with all people, always sharing, with love and humor, the technology of how to live in the Age of Aquarius as elevated and radiant, happy and healthy human beings. Yogi Bhajan lived his final years in New Mexico. A community developed around his residence there. He passed on in 2004; he is as much missed as a mentor to many and equally loved through the practice of the teachings by a multitude of teachers and practitioners as per his suggestion, “Don’t love me, love the teachings.’
